Some conflicts involve genuine resource scarcity at the hard limit - two groups competing for water that cannot support both of them. Those wars may be unavoidable. This document does not pretend otherwise. But most wars are not that. Most wars are the subjugation loop running on manufactured enemies, honour/shame pointed at the wrong targets, and ideologies that require an enemy to fight in order to justify their own existence. Those wars can stop. Right now. Without anyone giving up their identity, their religion, their culture, or their economic preferences. The only thing required is to stop fighting people who haven't done anything wrong. THE WARS THAT ARE REAL Some conflicts have no solution that doesn't involve someone dying. Two democracies competing for an aquifer that cannot support both populations - both sides would genuinely, democratically vote for war. The anti-subjugation pledge does not generate water. The corpus does not solve physics. This is the honest exception. It is named here so that the rest of the document is not claiming more than it delivers. The wars described below are not this. They are the other kind. THE SOCIALIST WAR (PLEASE STOP) Socialists want people to contribute according to their ability and receive according to their need. This is a legitimate goal. There is nothing wrong with it. The problem is the enemy they invented to fight on the way to that goal. Corporations are not evil. They are actors responding to incentives. When given cheaper inputs they pass savings to consumers. When given public domain software they build products without reinventing the wheel, reducing costs for everyone. The GPL fence - which prevents corporations from using code freely - is the socialist false belief encoded in a licence. It says: corporations are the enemy, coercion is required. It is not required. PDOS has been sitting in the public domain for thirty years. Public domain is sunlight - available to corporations, individuals, clinics in the global south, hobbyists, students, without conditions, without fences, without coercion. Normal market forces pass the savings through. One person built the means of production and gave it away. No state required. No revolution required. No corpses required. The socialist goal - people contributing according to ability, everyone benefiting - is achievable right now, voluntarily, by contributing to PDOS. The factory is open. The door is unlocked. One of them - the Mu'tazilah - argued in the ninth century that reason should be placed above revelation. That the mind should be used above the writings of others, even prophets. That the Quran was a start, not an end. The Mu'tazilah invented rationalism inside Islam and were suppressed for it. They were right. The three pillars of True Islam are the golden rule, fight subjugation, and empathy for strangers. These are derivable from first principles without any holy book. They are also what Mohammed actually meant, before his followers replaced the spirit with procedure - how many times to pray, what sort of head covering is required, who is allowed into heaven. The honour/shame mechanism in mainstream Islam is pointed at women's dress and religious compliance. It should be pointed at subjugation. That is the only redirect required. Everything else follows. A Muslim who follows the three pillars is already a better Muslim than one who prays five times a day and ignores the suffering of strangers. A Christian who follows the three pillars is already following what Mohammed wanted. An atheist who follows the three pillars is a Mu'tazilite and doesn't need to know it. The clash between Islam and the West is unnecessary. It is a conflict between two groups who want the same thing - cooperative societies free of subjugation - and have been fighting over the procedure instead of looking at the destination. Will Islam please redirect its honour/shame mechanism at subjugation, and stop fighting people who are trying to build the same thing? Convert all three into glorified versions of Denmark - liberal democracies with functioning rule of law, constraints on power, and the anti-subjugation principle encoded in their institutions. Then let the three Denmarks decide their future together, the same way the EU works. The EU is a collection of countries that spent centuries killing each other over borders, religion, and ethnic identity. They stopped. Not because the borders disappeared. Because the subjugation loop was interrupted - the hardware was correctly installed in enough of the population, the institutions encoded the anti-subjugation principle, and the manufactured enemy dissolved when it was no longer needed to justify the fight. Israel and Palestine can do the same. The name of the resulting entity is negotiable - Israel, Palestine, or something else entirely, the same way Londonderry and Derry are the same city with two names depending on who you ask. The name does not matter. The installation matters. Three Denmarks have no reason to fight over land that two subjugation-loop-running tribes are currently willing to die for. Same land. Different hardware. Will everyone in the region please stop fighting long enough to install the hardware correctly? The border that resulted has been a source of wars and near-wars ever since. The solution is the same as Israel/Palestine. Two Denmarks sharing a border have no reason to fight. The border becomes irrelevant - not because it disappears, but because neither side needs it to mean what it currently means. The EU again. Countries that fought two world wars between them now argue about trade regulations. The nuclear weapons pointed at each other are the subjugation loop running at civilisational scale. Both sides are running the reaching-for-moving-things instinct on their shared border, with the religious hardware adding honour/shame to the mix. The fix is upstream of the weapons. This sometimes requires a war. The war is not the problem - the problem is what gets installed in the power vacuum afterward. Install Mu'tazilah - or its Christian equivalent, or its Hindu equivalent, or its atheist equivalent - into the power vacuum. The three pillars. The anti-subjugation pledge. The honour/shame mechanism redirected at subjugation rather than at women's dress and religious compliance. Expand the tribe before age six. Every child in the region needs to hear: "We don't hurt our family. And everyone in the world is our family." This is the primary installation. Everything else builds on it. Install the pledge before the next crisis. The pledge must be pre-committed before the panic makes subjugation feel necessary. After the panic it is too late. Wait one generation. The hardware that is correctly installed in childhood runs for life. One generation of correct installation produces a population that does not reach for the subjugation loop when the power vacuum arrives. The result is Denmark. Not because Denmark is special. Because Denmark is what happens when the installation goes right.
